The College of African Philosophy welcomes original scholarly contributions related to African philosophies and their intellectual, cultural, ethical, political, and aesthetic questions.

Editorial Standards

Submitted work should be clear, well argued, properly referenced, and respectful of academic integrity. Previously published material must be identified, and all sources must be acknowledged.

Areas of Publication

We consider research articles, essays, translations, interviews, reviews, teaching materials, and audiovisual proposals. Contributions may address African intellectual traditions, contemporary debates, comparative philosophy, decolonial thought, epistemic justice, and related fields.

Review and Editing

Submissions may be edited for language, structure, accuracy, and house style. Publication decisions are made according to relevance, quality, originality, and alignment with the College’s mission.

Is African Philosophy a Margin of Western Philosophy?

The question is not whether African philosophy can be admitted into a history already written elsewhere. The deeper question is how the history of philosophy changes when African traditions and thinkers are taken seriously. The problem of the center What is called the philosophical center was produced through institutions, canons, translations, and exclusions. It is not a neutral geographical fact. Treating African thought as marginal repeats that history instead of examining it. Difference without isolation African philosophy should not be enclosed in cultural uniqueness, nor dissolved into a supposedly universal vocabulary. Its works participate in shared philosophical problems while also transforming their terms. Rewriting the map The task is therefore not to move a margin closer to a fixed center. It is to construct a more accurate and plural map of philosophical creation, circulation, and debate.

The College of African Philosophy was founded in response to an urgent intellectual need: to restore visibility to African philosophies, introduce their achievements, and create a space for dialogue around their concepts and questions. A platform for research and publication The project brings together articles, studies, translations, interviews, bibliographies, lectures, podcasts, and audiovisual materials. It seeks to connect careful scholarship with an accessible public presence. Plural languages and audiences African philosophical work is produced in many languages. Africa as a Space for Producing Concepts

Africa is often presented as an object to be described by theories produced elsewhere. A philosophical approach must instead recognize the continent as a space where concepts are created, tested, and transformed. Beyond the status of an object African societies have generated rich reflections on personhood, community, time, power, memory, land, and responsibility. These ideas do not merely illustrate universal theories; they reshape the questions themselves. Concepts rooted in experience Conceptual production begins from historical experience but is not confined to it. Colonialism, liberation, linguistic plurality, migration, and technological change have all produced philosophical problems with global significance. A plural intellectual geography To think of Africa as a space of concepts is to challenge the geography of knowledge that assigns theory to one region and experience to another. Philosophy becomes more universal when its centers of enunciation multiply.
